Cinco Ranch Community Ranked No. 1 for Livability Statewide and Nationwide
Katy, Texas — March 27, 2014

AreaVibes, a website rating the livability of cities, zip codes and areas, has rated the Cinco Ranch community in Katy, Texas as “No. 1” for livability statewide and nationwide.

Specifically, Cinco Ranch rated a 92 livability score. AreaVibes’ livability scores are based on various metrics for each city, including: amenities, cost of living, crime rates, education, employment, housing and weather. Cinco Ranch scored an “A” or better in all metrics.

“This is great news for the Katy area and further substantiates the fact that Cinco Ranch has a high quality of life and is a great place to live,” said Lance LaCour, President and CEO of the Katy Area Economic Development Council (Katy Area EDC).

One major factor behind Cinco Ranch’s strong livability rating, according to Katy Area EDC research, is the Katy Independent School District, a nationally-acclaimed school system with several Texas Education Agency (TEA) Exemplary Schools. Also, Katy ISD’s performance on American College Tests (ACTs) and Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SATs) regularly rate above state and national averages.

In addition, AreaVibes noted the income per capita in Cinco Ranch is 128.4 percent greater than the Texas average and 102.9 percent greater than the national average. The median household income in Cinco Ranch is 165.9 percent greater than the Texas average and 151.2 percent greater than the national average. By contrast, Cinco Ranch’s poverty level is 92.8 percent less than the Texas average and 89.6 percent less than the national average.

Meanwhile, Cinco Ranch enjoys a well-educated and growing workforce. Cinco Ranch has a high school graduation rate of 98.5 percent, compared to 73.1 percent overall in Texas, and a 69 percent U.S. high school graduation rate. More than 65.9 percent of Cinco Ranch residents have earned bachelor’s degrees versus 10.3 percent overall for Texas and 13.9 percent nationwide. Cinco Ranch excels in advanced education demographics with 20.5 percent of residents having master’s degrees compared to 3 percent for Texas and 5.9 percent nationwide. Additionally, employment in Cinco Ranch is expected to grow 24 percent (from 9,214 to 11,493) by 2018.

Cinco Ranch also benefits from the surrounding area’s steady influx of businesses opening headquarters or branch facilities in or near Katy. Companies opening and expanding new facilities and offices in the area within the last two years include, GEICO; Kobelco;  BP America; Weatherford, Shell Exploration and Production; Jacobs; Sasol; Subsea 7; Houston Offshore Engineering; Welltech Americas; Memorial Hermann; Methodist Hospital; Igloo Corporation; Dyna-Drill; Medline Industries; Hampco/G-Tech; Goya; and Entrust.
